Volunteer with State College Area Meals on Wheels


Volunteering at Meals on Wheels: We encourage you to support State College Area Meals on Wheels by signing up to become one of our volunteers! Volunteering is a great way to connect with other community members and also explore the State College area. Our current volunteer offerings include – Meal Line Aide, Kitchen Aide, Drivers/Visitors, and Dishwasher. We welcome anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer to read more about the positions on the Volunteer Positions page of our website. Volunteer Positions

  1. Meal Line Aides help prepare and package meals in the MOW kitchen at Grace Lutheran Church. Hours: 8:30 am to 10:45 am.
  2. Kitchen Aides help prepare ingredients for cooking. This volunteer often peels, washes, and chops vegetables. This position is not currently open, but we are looking to offer this soon. Hours: tbd.
  3. Drivers/Visitors deliver meals to clients on a standard route within the State College School District using their vehicle. A valid driver’s license and automobile insurance is required, in addition to a police background check and child abuse clearance. Mileage reimbursement is available. Hours: 10:30 am to approximately 12:30 pm.
  4. Dishwashers wash dishes from the kitchen and meal line. Hours: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
  5. On-call Volunteers are available to be called to fill last-minute openings within 24 hours of the shift. Volunteers can be on call for any of the volunteer opportunities.
  6. Substitute Volunteers on their own schedule to fill in weekly openings as they arise. Substitutes can fill in for any of the volunteer opportunities. See the position descriptions for days and times.
